A Movement Class for Neck and Shoulders


Join us at Phoenix Fitness & Yoga from 12:00-1:00pm on Mondays, March 9, 16, 23 and 30 and explore optimal movement strategies for the upper body.


Moshe Feldenkrais, martial artist and scientist, described the goal of his movement lessons beautifully: Make the impossible possible, the possible easy and the easy elegant! How? By first recognizing the movement patterns you currently have (which you may not even be aware of) and then trying out variations in those neuromuscular patterns that could lead to better movement in your day-to-day life.


Anyone at any age can learn to move more effectively, efficiently and with more satisfaction.


For students of yoga and other body disciplines: Reducing tension and freeing up movement in your neck and shoulders can reduce pain or discomfort that distracts you from your own movement routines. The sensory, musculoskeletal awareness you'll practice in these lessons not only focuses on how you move into and out of any position, but also on the capacity for individual creativity in each movement. Deepen your existing skillset by revisiting what you already know - in different ways.


For interested beginners: This series is open to all levels. Awareness Through Movement® classes focus on the quality and intention of your movement rather than your range of movement. Each student learns at their own pace. Gaining more flexibility in your shoulders can help reduce tension and anxiety. Learning to move your neck and shoulders easily and independently can improve your stability, gait and perception.


Feldenkrais said that learning and movement are expressions of the same thing. When you move differently, you learn. When you learn something new, you move differently. So, finding a new movement pattern, finding a new you in that pattern, may seem impossible at first, but awareness and movement can help you find a possible path to change, then an easier one and finally an elegant one.


Time: Saturdays, March 7, 14, 21 and 28 from 10:30 to 11:30am

Cost for 4-class series: $40 for Phoenix members, $50 for non-members
